Twitter Deletes More Than 2 Lakh Accounts In A Fight Against Terrorism

On Thursday Twitter has announced that it had cut off its 2,35,000 accounts across the globe which are seemed to be fake accounts and the accounts which promote terrorism. During the past six months in a heightened crackdown on the use of the global messaging service, Twitter to promote violent extremist causes. As the suspects in the Twitter account has been raised to 3,60,000 that is a total number of accounts sideline in the middle of 2015 and which was also helping in finding the meaningful results.

In February, Twitter said that it had neutralized 125,000 accounts for violating rules against violent threats and promotion of terrorism. The social media platform has been striving to balance protecting free speech at the one-to-many messaging service with not providing a stage for extremist groups to spread violent messages. Twitter said in a blog post that Since that announcement, the world has witnessed a further wave of deadly, abhorrent terror attacks across the globe.

The Communications Decency Act (CDA) protects online platforms from being held responsible for what users post. The Social Media Platform has strongly condemned these acts and remains committed to eliminating the promotion of violence or terrorism on our platform. The platform added that there is no one ‘magic algorithm’ for identifying terrorist content on the Internet.

But, we continue to utilize other forms of technology, like proprietary spam-fighting tools, to supplement reports from our users and help identify repeat account abuse. Twitter from the past six months has worked on the automated tools which have helped in accounts suspension for promoting the Terrorism. However, Moves have been made to make it tougher for people behind suspended accounts to immediately return to the platform.

Twitter said that it collaborates with other online social platforms in the fight against terror content. Will any other social media platform join hands with twitter to end this global crisis?
