Google first made mention of Augmented Reality (AR) stickers back in October this year. The search giant was planning on making these stickers available exclusively for Pixel and Pixel XL 2 smartphones. As leading reports now suggest, Google has finally made these stickers available for use. The Augmented Reality (AR) stickers are just like any other smartphone emoticon, except they are 3D by nature. Individuals can add the stickers to their pictures or videos that are captured through Google’s official camera application. This is believed to be Google’s effort of foraying into the Augmented Reality (AR) technology.
The company wants to serve the trending interests of its loyal customer base. In a similar effort, Google introduced ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘Star Wars’ branded AR sticker sets. Owners of Google Pixel and Pixel XL 2 will now be able to add cartoon versions of characters from ‘Stranger Things’ including the infamous villain from the series called ‘Demogorgon.’ There are a couple of ‘Star Wars’ characters and creatures as well, including R2-D2, BB-8, Porgs and Storm-Troopers. This is not all as the search giant has even added AR stickers of creatures and objects of its own. The list includes things like a donut, a coffee mug, a weightlifting stalk of broccoli and more.
According to a report published by The Verge, the feature is currently only available for Pixel and Pixel 2 series of smartphones. The handsets are required to be running on the latest Android Oreo 8.1 operating system. Since, all the set of Pixel devices haven’t yet received the software update, majority of the users won’t even be able to get their hands on the stickers. The lucky bunch of smartphone users who have been able to update their smartphones to Android 8.1 OS, will find the stickers inside the official Google camera app in the next couple of days. Google plans on expanding the sticker pack in the future.
Following given are a list of other important details relating to AR stickers by Google that you need to know:
Update your camera app
Before venturing into the Google camera app in search of AR Stickers, make sure that you have updated it. Individuals can update their apps through the Google Play Store, under the Update section. The update will give you access to AR Core as well as AR Stickers. After successfully updating the app, you can visit the respective pages accordingly. Since the feature is slowly rolling out, you might have to wait for the update to arrive for your model.
Get creative with AR Stickers
There are many creative ways through which you can utilize the AR stickers. Move the handset in circular motions to discover the different ways in which you can record or capture a video or a picture. You can even scan and map the areas using these stickers. Individuals even have the option of shrinking and enlarging the stickers through the use of two fingers on the device’s display. Smartphone users can view the AR stickers from different angles by simply walking around. Each and every sticker in both, ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘Star Wars’ pack has its exclusive set of phrases and movements. There are some AR stickers that might come accompanied with certain audio files as well. Google Pixel and Pixel 2 owners can make use of the same sticker twice in a given video or picture. If you want to clear all the stickers placed on the picture or video at the same time, then you can do so by simply tapping on the ‘Trash’ icon located right at the bottom.
