The recycle war is going on all over the world. Every country is backlashing on each other as recently Malaysia has decided to send back around 3,300 tons of non-recyclable plastics to the countries like the US, UK, Cannada, and Australia. Their motive behind sending all the non-recyclables back is that they do not want their country to become a dumping ground for the rich countries conveyed by Environment Minister Yeo Bee Yin.
Yeo also conveyed that after the Chinese banned all the imports of plastic waste last year, the rich nations are trying to make the developing countries a target to dump their waste on the grounds of the less powerful and keep their nation clean. She also said that around 60 containers are stacked with the contaminated waste which was smuggled in en route to process them illegally that is one of the reasons that the non-recyclables are being sent back to the place where they belong. Ten of the containers are scheduled for shipping to their respective countries within the next two weeks. She also invited reports to the site where the waste was dumped at a port situated outside Kuala Lumpur.
During the visit to the dump area a lot of waste like contaminated milk cartons from Australia and compact disks from Bangladesh, and also to include burnt electronics and household items from the U.S., Cannada, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and even China. The waste from China is mixed up with waste from France and other countries. Yeo conveyed in a press conference, “This is probably just the tip of the iceberg (due) to the banning of plastic waste by China. Malaysia will not be a dumping ground to the world … we will fight back. Even though we are a small country, we can’t be bullied by developed countries.”
