Former Chief Minister of Delhi State, Sheila Dikshit passed away at the age of 81. She was one of the well-known Congress leaders in India and served as the chief minister for straight 15 years. Dixit got sick suddenly in the morning and was rushed to the hospital and took her last breath on the hospital bed. She has served as the chief minister between 1998 and 2013. She was one of the longest-serving chief ministers in India. She has done some amazing work during her time span and has devoted her career in the development of Delhi.
President Ram Nath Kovind said that Dixit will be remembered for the “momentous transformation for the capital” during her whole work time span. Even Prime Minister Modi took over Twitter and shared his condolences as he called Dikshit a”warm and affable personality”. Mr. Modi shared, “Deeply saddened by the demise of Sheila Dikshit Ji. Blessed with a warm and affable personality, she made a noteworthy contribution to Delhi’s development. Condolences to her family and supporters. Om Shanti.”
The Defense Minister of India, Rajnath Singh also paid his respects and shared his warm condolences to the late leader. He posted, “The passing away of former Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Sheila Dixit is deeply saddening. She was a tall Congress leader known for her congenial nature. Sheilaji was widely respected cutting across party lines. My thoughts are with her bereaved family & supporters. Om Shanti!”
Virendra Sehwag, the former Indian Cricket player also shared his condolences to Dixit as he tweeted, “Sad to hear about the passing away of #SheilaDixit Ji. Heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones.” Sanjay Tambe also took over Twitter and shared, “Very sad news coming from Delhi … Sheila Dixit Ji passes away … May her soul rest in peace! I shared very close relations with the entire Dixit family, I pray almighty to give strength to family and friends.” ANI which stands for Asian News International also tweeted from their official account, “BJP MP & BJP Delhi President, Manoj Tiwari: I had met her recently, it is a big shock. I remember how she welcomed me like a mother. Delhi will miss her. May God give her family and her closed ones the strength to bear this loss.”
Her death news was passed on by Dr. Ashok Seth, director, Escorts Fortis as he said that his team of doctors did everything they could to save Dixit. “At 3:15 pm she again suffered a cardiac arrest. She was put on the ventilator and at 3:55 pm she passed away peacefully,” he told news agency ANI. Congress also shared their regrets on the death of the legend as the tweet said, “We regret to hear of the passing of Smt Sheila Dikshit. Lifelong congresswoman and as three-time CM of Delhi she transformed the face of Delhi. Our condolences to her family and friends. Hope they find strength in this time of grief,” the Congress said. Dixit was known for her hard work for the state she served for 15 years. She was very popular among the people and the reason behind her popularity was her work.
