SpaceX plans to build a rocket and spaceship facility at the port of the Los Angeles which will help Elon Musk’s SpaceX achieve their goal making missions to Mars by 2022.
The SpaceX plans to build a system which is known as BFR or can be said as Big Falcon Rocket at the desired facility. BFR can be moved to its desired location by ship or barge, and this needs a port location and the company already uses the port for the other missions.
BFR or Big Falcon Rocket will be built in order to take people to Mars by 2024. The goal is to set up a colony on the Red Planet within an estimated time period of 50 to 100 years. Elon Musk who is the founder of the SpaceX and CEO said that the BFR can also be used to take people to the moon and can launch satellites to low Earth orbit or to clean up the orbital debris and can also transport the passengers around the Earth at record time.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said that “This is a vehicle that holds the promise of taking humanity deeper into the cosmos than ever before, and this isn’t just about reaching into the heavens. It’s about creating jobs right here on Earth.” The facility that SpaceX is going to build will be generating about 700 jobs. This new rocket is said to be replacing the old Falcon 9 rockets.
According to some documents that are posted online by the Los Angeles Board of Harbour Commissioners, says that the SpaceX company has taken about 18 acres of land on Terminal Island, which is a small industrial zone lies between the San Pedro of Los Angeles and the city of Long Beach, California.
