No doubt, that President Donald is gutting the democracy of the nation while everyone is dealing harshly with the coronavirus pandemic. And this new job of suspending the independent watchdog of coronavirus emergy funds is a clear point of that. Trump has removed the acting inspector general for the Defense Department, Glenn Fine from his post which clearly reflects that Fine will no longer serve to his job over COVID-19 emergency funds.

The Pandemic Response Accountability Committee was tasked with overseeing $2 trillion as of the emergency coronavirus funding which is now out of the hands of Fine. The official was charged with monitoring the coronavirus relief efforts. But on Trump on Monday removed him from his post.

Apart from that most surprising part is he never elected any other temporary Pentagon watchdog to take over the responsibilities of Fine? The decision or the news started circulating on Capitol Hill Tuesday morning, and the law permits only the current inspector general to fill the position.

“Mr. Fine is no longer on the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee,” Dwrena Allen, a spokeswoman for the Pentagon inspector general’s office, confirmed. She added that Fine will return to his Senate-confirmed post as principal deputy inspector general of the Pentagon.

As mentioned by Politico, Trump has also begun sharply attacking Health and Human Services Inspector General Christi Grimm, following a report from her office which confirms the delay in testing and supplies for the virus at the nation’s hospital.

“Another Fake Dossier!” Trump tweeted while pointing Grimm’s tenure as inspector general during the Obama administration. A point to note is that he didn’t mention that Grimm was serving faithfully as a federal watchdog since 1999, completing administration tenure of both the parties.

“The Inspector-General Community will continue to conduct aggressive, independent oversight of the agencies that we oversee,” he said in a statement after Atkinson’s ouster. And in return of that Atkinson also issues a lengthy statement accusing Trump of removing him for following whistleblower laws.

“The sudden removal and replacement of Acting Inspector General Fine is part of a disturbing pattern of retaliation by the president against independent overseers fulfilling their statutory and patriotic duties to conduct oversight on behalf of the American people,” said Speaker Nancy Pelosi in a statement.
